Walking In The Yorkshire Dales To Contents

In my opinion the Yorkshire Dales provide one of the best walking areas in the country covering a wide variety of scenery and some isolated locations. I have included the walks which I do on a regular basis together with a number of photographs. In particular I would recomend a visit to the Ribblehead and Moorcock Inn pages both of which make use of the excellent Settle Carlisle train service and other transport links. Also see the Family Cycle Trails pages

We are currently raising funds for Martin House Children's Hospice with the sale of the Sarah Carey CD 'Painting Rainbows'. If you have enjoyed this site and would like to participate in this worthwhile cause please click here and take a minute to read the attached page.

Contents:-

  • Ribblehead -A selection of walks in the Three Peaks area all finishing at the Station Inn Ribblehead. These make use where appropriate of the excellent Settle-Carlisle Railway service.

  • Garsdale and the Moorcock Inn - A few walks in this isolated area all starting or finishing at the Moorcock Inn. The areatakes in parts of upper Wenslydale, the upper Eden Valley and the fells to each side and is accessed from the Settle- Carlisle Railway line. OK, I know this is mostly into Cumbria but still part of the Yorkshire Dales!

  • Upper Wharfedale-The most frequented of the Dales and covering a large area including  Kettlewell, Litton, Arncliffe and Buckden

  • Lower Wharfedale -  the area north of Ilkley and including the moorland each side of Bolton Abbey and Grassington. Good bus connections from Ilkley and Skipton.

  • Nidderdale - Includes Pateley Bridge, Brimham Rocks, Middlesmoor and Scar House Reservoir. Mostly just out of the Dales but in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

  • Washburn Valley - This includes the Timble, Fewston and Thruscross area - Easy access from Leeds and surrounding areas

  • Malham Dale - Malham Cove and Gordale Scar - a popular and sometimes very busy area.

  • Swaledale - Gunnerside Gill and Upper Swaledale - an area rich in lead mining heritage as well as scenery

  • Ilkley Moor- From Menston to Ilkley - an area of open moorland actually in Lower Wharfedale with carved rocks and stone circles. Slightly out of the Dales as such and close to Leeds and Bradford with a good rail link.

  • Middleton Fells - A circuit of the Middleton Fells  - an upland area on it's own situated between the Three Peaks and the Lake District and not often frequented

  • Wensleydale - a walk up Great Shunner Fell plus a few more. Also see the Moorcock Inn above.

  • Coverdale   -a circuit taking in part of Coverdale and Waldendale from this remote valley

To print out individual walks I would suggest that you copy and paste text into your preferred format.
