Upper WharfedaleTo contents
The quintessential Yorkshire Dale and probably the most frequented area to the north of Grassington including the villages of Kettlewell, Starbotton, Buckden, Arncliffe and Litton. Upper Wharfedale includes Langstrothdale and Littondale for these purposes. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with over touristed areas such as Kettlewell but some surprisingly under-walked areas to be found. See Lower Wharfedale as a separate page which includes the area of Grassington and to the south.

There are several bus services in Wharfedale, including the frequent No 72 service between Skipton and Grassington, with some buses continuing to Buckden. On Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays the 872 provides a frequent service from Skipton to Grassington. On Mondays to Saturdays the 74 provides a service from Ilkley to Grassington. This becomes the 874 on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays. On Sundays, and some Tuesdays and Saturdays in summer, Dalesbus services run from West Yorkshire via Wharfedale to Hawes. See www.dalesbus.org for details.
