Old Cote Moor From Arncliffe
Walk 3- Arncliffe-Old Cote Moor-Litton Circular- 9 miles - An excellent ridge walk using access area! - Start at Arncliffe village green passing out of the village near to the church. After the river bridge a path cuts a corner of two roads to cross the Hawkswick road and through another stile proceeding up the hill. The path goes through a copse and passes through a gap in a rocky outcrop. The path is well defined until emerging at the top of the hill at which point cross the stile and turn left along ridge with wall on left. After 2 miles or so the wall will need to be crossed (shortly after an intersection with another wall - please study the map for this bit!) and some careful navigation will be required around a dog-leg.
Eventually the trig point at Old Cote moor will be reached. The return route uses the well used path from Old Cote Moor to Litton passing through a gate on the left proceeding straight and then diagonally down the hillside emerging by the Queens Arms. Continue along the road towards Halton Gill for about 300m until turning left down to bridge across the River Skirfare. Bear left over the bridge and follow well defined paths on the right hand side of the river eventually to reach walled track and, finally, Arncliffe.
An alternative to this walk would be to start at Kettlewell car park - Having crossed the river bridge proceed up the hillside taking steeper left hand path towards Arncliffe. This proceeds diagonally up hill until meeting a stile. Beyond the stile proceed directly uphill and at top of the hill (at wall) bear right (without crossing stile) and proceed along ridge with wall on left as described above. Upon leaving Old Cote Moor trig point bear diagonally right and progress down hill to Buckden. Return to Kettlewell along right hand side of river bank
