Dent Station to Ribblehead

Dentdale from Cowgill
Alight at Dent Station and follow minor road down hill. Turn left at bottom of hill and immediately over bridge turn right to follow path alongside river bank. Pass through stile and then field. This route eventually joins the minor road to Dent at Ewegales Bridge. After about 300m bear left through a gate where there is a footpath sign.
The path is well defined crossing a field rising slightly uphill and then
into Littetown wood by means of a stile. The path emerges briefly at a
clearing where a house is passed and then back into woodland. On emerging
from the woodlands cross three fields then bearing left to follow a vehicle
track at Hackergill Farm. Turn right after the farm by means of a stile
and then another stile. Bear right following the valley side and a series
of stiles and to the rear of Clint. Eventually, the track to Laithbank
is reached. Bear right down farm track and then turn left at the minor
road. After a short while look for a footpath on the right leading down
to river bank bearing slightly right to cross small beck on the way. At
the river cross footbridge and turn left to follow the river bank for
1 mile until eventually forced to turn right to meet minor road. Turn
left along the road and proceed into Dent.
In the return direction, leave village along right hand river bank at
Church Bridge eventually to join the minor road at Mill Bridge. Take the
right hand fork just before Whernside Manor passing a former chapel. After
300 metres take the left hand track known as Craven Way and proceed onwards
and upwards over well defined but exposed track to Ribblehead (5 miles).
NB 2½ miles can be saved if Dent village avoided by turning left at Tommy Bridge. Alternatively take the bus from Dent Station [Saturdays only] and commence the walk from Dent village
